DBRS Confirms Triple A Rating for Luxembourg

Written by: Bridgewest

Luxembourg-rated-AAA-by-DBRSLuxembourg has received good ratings over the last two years, the last one being issued by DBRS which confirms its previous AAA rating. This is the highest rating a country can receive and the agency justifies Luxembourg receiving it because of the good economic performance. Luxembourg’s public finances also contributed to the rating

Among the reasons for the agency to rate Luxembourg AAA, one of the most important one is the country’s public debt which is expected to decrease in 2018. The Grand Duchy has one of the lowest public debts in Europe, based on the current fiscal results analyzed by DBRS. Also, Luxembourg is expected to conclude the year with a Gross Domestic Product surplus.

The agency also commends Luxembourg for its political stability and the quality of the services offered by the public institutions here. Considering Luxembourg is one of the most important financial centers in Europe, the services offered by the financial institutions are very important, which is why the agency described them as “robust”. DBRS also mentioned the fact that Luxembourg is among the best countries in terms of governance in most of the World Bank’s reports.

Why is this rating important for Luxembourg?

DBRS is one of the largest credit rating agencies in the world and its ratings for Luxembourg are very important for companies and investors seeking to open companies here, especially after Brexit. With DBRS offering such good rating, investors will have a better chance to understand why this country is a good place for doing business. Moreover, the credit rating agency sees Luxembourg as a new business center for companies seeking an EU jurisdiction for relocating their activities, but also for establishing new ones.

It is also worth mentioning, that according to the agency’s report, the purchase power of the Luxembourg population is 2.4 times higher than the Eurozone average.

The rating issued by DBRS comes a week after Standard and Poor’s released the same AAA rating, so if you are interested in setting up a business in Luxembourg, please feel free to contact us.
